I’m confused. - According to each company’s websites, the pixel resolution is the same on both units (320×240). However the iPod Supports the H.264 codec, enabling it to play video at 640×480 (slightly less than ntsc). So why does everyone here say the Creative has better video resolution? OK nevermind I just looked at Ian209’s post which claims the Vision M DOES display at 640×480. But the website makes no mention of it’s compatability with H.264 - a very widely used codec, I’m still confused as to why that is. Also the website omits mention of the AAC audio format which has better quality than mp3 and better efficiency than WMA and WAV. What advantage do the divx and xvid formats offer me when I can easily convert video H.264 with many free and very cheap compressors? Also: does anyone have any notes on the differences in screen brightness and angle of view between the two models. -Much Thanks

are both players compatable with the same docking stations, ie is the connection on the bottom the same?

Regarding Bens comments I own a zen vision m and a close friend of mine owns an Ipod 5g. Although the zen vision m doesn’t play h.264 the ipod video ONLY plays this codec also known as h.264/avc or MP4. The majority of the content you find on torrent sites are .avi files (divx and xvid) which are supported by the zen vision m and not the ipod The different resolutions mean nothing as they are native resolutions. The resolutions get scaled down to 320×240 for both. The aac format is uncommon and features many shackling DRM features which cause files to disappear when transferred under certain conditions. The advantage of not converting files to h.264 is in itself an advantage as it takes time to convert. Why would you want to spend hours converting the files when the zen plays it as is. The battery life is also a big plus over the ipod which is simply pathetic at 2.5 hours of video compared to the zens 4.5 which is probably because of the high compression h.264 format. Aac files are fine and dandy but when most of the world is using mp3 files and most non itunes stores are using wma or mp3.There are also free converters which switch .aac files to mp3 and vice versa and also others which convert h.264 to xvid wma or divx so it doesnt matter. At screen brightness the zen vision wins hands down. The default values is 50% for the zen vision m and the brightness is adjustable. The screen is a superior screen as it displays more colours(262,141 to the ipods 65,000 do the math) than the ipod. The resolution of both screens are the same
The viewing angle is not that great for the zen but hardly an annoyance (2.5 inches isnt really large enough for long range viewing anyways). The zen vision m does display at 640×480 using its tv output on to a tv screen so it does display at 640×480(double the TVs native resolution.
Hope i was helpful.

Sadly no. They both aren’t compatible but im sure there are aftermarket manufacturers which make them for both. The connection at the bottom is different and they dont use the same docks.

Even after reading all the reviews for the two products, I am still torn. There seems to be a general consensus that ZVM is better than the iPod. I primarily use a Mac at home. And the iLife suite make it so easy to put media content to iTunes - easily converting videos to h.264
and audio to AAC. My PC at home is Intel based and has Windows XP installed so I can use ZVM with it, if I chose.
I don’t know. I just need someone to convince me one way or another. Thanks.
